VisionTrack, a leading provider of AI-powered video telematics, has welcomed the UK government’s new Road Safety Strategy and pledged to support fleets in meeting the requirements of the forthcoming National Work-Related Road Safety Charter.
The announcement by the Department for Transport sets ambitious targets to reduce deaths and serious injuries on Britain’s roads by 65% by 2035. It includes measures to tackle drink and drug driving, improve training for young drivers, and introduce mandatory eyesight tests for older motorists. Crucially, it recognises that one in three road fatalities involves someone driving for work, prompting the launch of a national standard for employers to manage road risk.
VisionTrack’s advanced telematics solutions are already helping fleets across the UK and internationally to reduce collisions, improve compliance, and protect vulnerable road users. By leveraging AI-powered video technology, businesses can monitor driver behaviour, identify high-risk actions, and implement proactive interventions to prevent incidents before they occur.
John Crawford, Head of Account Management at VisionTrack, said:
“We welcome the Government’s renewed commitment to road safety and the clear ambition to move toward Vision Zero. The focus on data-led interventions, safer vehicle standards, and behavioural change closely aligns with the role video telematics can play in helping fleets proactively reduce risk. Achieving safer roads will require close collaboration between government, industry, and fleet operators, and we look forward to working together to support these measures and accelerate progress toward eliminating serious injuries and fatalities on UK roads.”
VisionTrack works closely with Driving for Better Business (DfBB), an initiative run by National Highways, to promote best practice in managing work-related road risk. The company also partners with Brake, the road safety charity, to support campaigns aimed at preventing road deaths and injuries and to provide resources for fleets seeking to improve safety performance.
The government’s strategy adopts the internationally recognised Safe System approach, which acknowledges that while human error is inevitable, deaths and serious injuries are not. By combining safer road design, vehicle technology, enforcement, and education, the UK aims to reverse a decade of stalled progress and reclaim its position as a global leader in road safety.
VisionTrack’s solutions complement these measures by delivering real-time monitoring, predictive analytics, and actionable insights that empower fleets to reduce collisions, improve compliance, and protect lives. By combining advanced technology with strong partnerships and best practice guidance, VisionTrack and their partners are helping commercial operators take a proactive approach to road safety – supporting the government’s ambition to make every journey safer for all road users.
